What to expect
What it looks like to volunteer
You might sit beside a child in Reading Labs as they practice reading out loud. You might help at a Mobile Pantry distribution in one of our senior communities. You might lend a hand at a community event or another on-site activity.
Some roles happen once. Others happen week after week. What matters most is showing up in a way that fits your time and the needs of the community.
Why it matters
Small moments matter here.
Volunteers help make everyday moments possible. A child gets extra time to practice reading. An older adult leaves a pantry with food they need. A community event feels more welcoming and more connected.
These may seem like small things, but they matter. They help people feel supported where they live.
Showing up matters more than getting it perfect.
How volunteering works
Getting started is straightforward.

Apply
Fill out the volunteer application so we can learn a little about you — your schedule, your interests, and what you're hoping to do.

Connect
Our Volunteer Coordinator will follow up to talk through options and help you find a role that fits.

Show up
Once you're scheduled, we'll make sure you know where to go, what to expect, and who you'll meet.

What to expect
Before you apply
A few helpful things to know, plus a look at the different ways volunteers show up.
Age & screening
Some volunteer roles require you to be at least 18 or to complete a background check. If you’re under 18, we may ask that you serve with a parent or guardian, depending on the opportunity.
When programs happen
Most of our programs take place during weekdays and early evenings, especially Reading Labs. Weekend opportunities are more limited.
Court-ordered hours
If you’re completing court-ordered or required service hours, reach out before applying so we can confirm whether we’re able to accommodate your request.
Location & commitment
Because our work takes place inside specific communities, volunteer opportunities are tied to those locations. If you’re not sure what that looks like, just ask—we’re happy to talk it through.
One afternoon
Great for groups or first-time volunteers. You might help with a community event, a project, or a scheduled opportunity where extra hands make a difference.
Week after week
A good fit for ongoing roles like Reading Labs and other recurring opportunities where people get to know you and look forward to seeing you.
